Workshop/seminar - 1pm to 5pm at Backstage Bar
Cross Culture Understanding – Avoiding misunderstandings in gay and other Thai-farang relations
To remind us that Pride is not only about a celebration of being Gay, but also about equality, sexual education and the cultural understanding between the Gay community, this Workshop/seminar is sponsored by Backstage and Ulf Mikaelsson of www.phuketgayhomestay.com.
Free workshops with a focus on Thai-Farang (Westerner) cross culture understanding, the most common misunderstandings and how to avoid them.
With guest speakers; Sven Mauleon from Sweden and Gaweechat Joompaula , from Thailand, cofounders of Open mind Projects and (www.openmindprojects.org) a leading education and volunteer organization supporting cross culture understanding and education projects in SE Asia and based in Thailand.
Sven Mauleon has a long professional and international experience as a management training consultant and cofounded Open mind projects together with Gaweechat to help the underprivileged to better education opportunities inviting and training overseas volunteers for volunteer work in SE Asia.
This half day workshop will discuss the most common misunderstandings between Thais and Farang in private as well as professional relationships; why and how to avoid them.
Phuket Pride was chosen as a good opportunity to discuss cross culture differences and conflicts since gay people often have faced cross culture (gay versus straight) in their home environments but face another type of cross culture problem in Thailand.
Open mind Projects champions cross culture understanding, one of the reasons it is inviting overseas volunteers to lend their services to school and other projects in SE Asia. Volunteers face the same problems as other expats who work and residents in Thailand. All are also welcome to take part in the workshop.
