Our Charities

Charities supported by Phuket Loves You Club

From Phuket Pride 2012 the PLU raised 145,000 Baht and along with other events run during Phuket Pride week over 300,000 Baht was raised for charity and along with other events run during Phuket Pride Week 2013, over 300,000 Baht was raised for charity..

Our inspirational target for Phuket Pride week 2014 is to raise 1,000,000 Baht for charity and through our web site and other media, we ensure that these charities are fully aware of the importance that our sponsors play in helping us achieve these goals.

Our current chosen charities are:

The Life Home Project - Charity supported by Phuket Gay PrideThe Life home project is a registered charitable foundation that is registered under Thai law. It is non-denominational, non-profit charitable organisation. The projects main goal is to help to improve the situation of those in Phuket, primarily women, who are HIV positive and their children (who may be HIV positive themselves) as well as other disadvantaged children.

Phuket is currently one of the highest areas in the country for HIV/AIDS infected people.

The public Health department indicates that 60% of all new HIV infection occurs in teenagers between 15-25 years old. The Life Home Project is addressing this alarming issue with its outreach program, by providing workshops and community awareness days out in the community of Phuket in the dangers of unprotected sex.

The Phuket Loves You Club (PLU) intend to raise money to support many of the wonderful projects that the Life Home Project runs, but the two we are most keen to support is their Scholarship Program and their Day Care Centre.

The PLU fully supports these programs in wishing to obtain a better future for the kids, helping them to break the cycle of poverty or stigmatization in which they are trapped. We along with the Life Home Project believe that the best way to achieve this is to provide access to education in order to give them the opportunity to have a brighter future and better life.

Community Project

We have called one area of our charity work ‘Community Projects’. Along with other
organisations, we also work with the Sabaidee Clinic / Patong Hospital where local
people can go for free HIV & STD testing, receive safe sex advice and free condoms. People not registered in Phuket are not eligible for this free service and have to pay.

By the time of Phuket Pride 2014 we hope to have signed and started to execute upon a Memorandum of Understanding with Patong Hospital in order to provide safe sex and health information to the Gay Community within Patong, this will hopefully include not only information, but potentially free testing and on going care where this is not supplied by the Government. Patong Hospital see this as a potential model to cover not only the Gay Community but also the Heterosexual Community and we are proud to be driving this effort.

Safe Sex Only in PhuketWe have also implemented “Safe Sex Message Fridays” and Free Condoms in the
majority of Gay venues within Patong. “Safe Sex Message Fridays” involves many of the bar staff and waiters within the gay venues wearing bright red T Shirts with safe sex
messages on them on one day a week, Friday. This promotes the safe sex message not only to the local community but also to visiting tourists.

We are also looking at expanding our portfolio of activities to support key Safe Sex / HIV / AIDS Initiatives within the community.
