Film screening of ‘Living with the tiger’ at Prince of Songkla University
A FREE screening of Living with the Tiger will be held at Prince of Songkla University, starting with Registration at Building 5, Room 5104A. Cinema Room at 1:00 for a 1.30pm start and will run for 90 minutes.
Living with the Tiger is a feature length film that explores the lives of the children in Baan Gerda, a children’s charity that provides homes and care for HIV infected and affected orphans. The story is principally told through two of the children over a period of 3 years. The highs and lows are captured from the children’s perspective and shows their doubts and uncertainties as well as moments of joy and happiness.

They are given a sense of purpose when American composer Bruce Gaston starts teaching music to a group of the children. Although they are more used to karaoke sessions with Thai pop bands, Gaston is committed to helping them develop and begins writing an opera for the children to perform.
The film is much more than a story about how music can benefit people’s lives. It is about issues which are important to everyone; identity family and belonging. The underlying message also highlights the problems that HIV sufferers around the world have to deal with, and how society continues to shun those who are infected due to a lack of understanding.
Essentially, this is a film about acceptance and how children that had been given up on deserve to be treated like anyone else.
The Prince of Songkla University is situated at Phuket Campus 80 Moo 1 Vichit Songkram Rd., Amphur Kathu, Phuket 8312 and a map on how to find it can be found on our web site: www.phuket-pride.org
