Pride Returns to Phuket

Monday 24th - Sunday 30th April 2017

Pride has been celebrated in Phuket for over 16 years and this year promises to be even better.  The beginning of Phuket Pride week is highlighted with our ever popular sporting events and a Gay Cruise to Phang Nga Bay.

Though high heels and feathers will be in abundance, Pride is also a time to reflect on the journey our community has taken and on those that we have lost on the way to being accepted.  For the past five years, PLU’s Phuket Pride’s Celebration has raised over 1.6 Million baht to help in bringing the rate of HIV down to zero in the Gay community of Patong. The Pride theme chosen for this year’s Pride:   Be Strong – Be Healthy – Be Happy reflects the changes in attitudes of our LGBT brothers and sisters in Thailand and South East Asia.

On Thursday 27th April we will be holding our premier fundraising event, our Pride Dinner Extravaganza including Grand Charity Auction.  This year our headliner will Khun Tum the winner of 2016’s Stargazer contest. Besides great entertainment, there will be an amazing dinner, silent and oral Auction of unique and fabulous items.

On Friday 28th April, CC’s Hideaway will be presenting its 3rd Annual Stargazer Contest.  Last year the competition was amazing and this year promises to show case the best that Phuket has to offer.  The winner this year will receive over 35,000 baht in cash and prizes.

On Saturday 29th April at the beautiful Andaman Embrace Resort in Patong, we will once again be celebrating Phuket Pride’s Big Event featuring Top DJ’s, cabaret and Mr Phuket Pride 2017 Contest.  Enjoy the huge pool, soak under the star lights, full moon and gaze at all the beautiful men, one who will be Mr Phuket Pride 2017.

Finally on Sunday 30th April at 15:00, the event that everyone in Phuket has been waiting for, our Grand Parade.  Though we are working to create an amazing parade, we will be working with the Thai Government to assure that our parade meets the proper display of respect for the late King Bhumibol.   If it is deemed that a parade is not appropriate, we will be planning a Fancy Dress Street Party TBA*

PLU’s successes have not only been through the continued support of our sponsors, community members and visitors but through key businesses and individuals in our Phuket Thai Community.  This year we are proud to announce that Karex Berhad will be receiving our Citizenship Award for their continued support in providing over 260,000 condoms and lube for our safer sex campaign.  Without this type of business support, we would not be moving towards the Thai Health Department’s goal of getting the rate of HIV down to zero.

For the past two years, besides acknowledging the support from Thai organizations or businesses, we have awarded a Community Service Award to and individual who has shown a true commitment to helping us reach our goal of creating a healthier life for our Thai LGBT Community in Phuket.  This year we are proud to be awarding Ms Nutsuda Rodchong “Khun Ya” ,the Public Health Technical Officer for Phuket’s Provincial Health Department, with this honour. She has been instrumental in assuring to our club and community that the health of our LGBT community will always be in the forefront of the HIV fight in Phuket.
